Dana was engaged by Seeing Machines to support the introduction of the Seeing Machines Fleet driver safety system development into production and prepare it for worldwide roll-out. Seeing Machines called on specific expertise offered by Dana and built up through years of experience developing and launching volume automotive products. Dana’s reputation for speed, agility and flexibility in its consultancy was also a significant factor. The production timing of the Seeing Machines product was critical, and in parallel with the launch a number of design changes were desirable for the core product. With tight timescales and looming deadlines, even the simplest changes present a disproportionate commercial hazard – these changes needed to be right the first time. In order to mitigate this risk, fast engagement and integration with the Seeing Machines engineering team and the nominated TS16949 certified manufacturer was necessary to allow Dana to undertake a specific and targeted core design and DfX review ensuring any items that may disrupt the safe and timely launch, including safe passage of the product through validation and legislative compliance testing were identified and actioned. A result of this activity and many years of product development by the talented Seeing Machines team has ensured a smooth journey to product launch.
Another facet of this engagement was to assist Seeing Machines to navigate the complex process of product approval and certification for the different countries around the world working collaboratively with certification specialists.
